Ed's Library Priorities

Oversee Successful Library Reopening

  • Collaborate with Library Building Committee to understand project completion schedules
  • Support Staff planning efforts to re-install the collection in the new space and prepare for public visitation
  • Coordinate with staff, Library Building Committee, Library Friends & Foundation for soft opening and public opening events to ensure smooth re-introduction of the library to Belmont

Use Library Funds Strategically

  • Protect Core Library Funding  - Guarantee that the library can meet operational needs as well as State-mandated minimum budget, hours, and levels of operation
  • Invest in Effectiveness - Identify grants and other sources of investment that increase the productivity of library staff and stretch budgets further
  • Review Priorities - Focusing on the most important and highest-return initiatives will make limited funding go further
  • Develop a Strategic Fundraising Plan with the Friends of the Belmont Public Library and the Belmont Library Foundation to build on the excellent programming currently in place

Tell the Library Story

Libraries are essential organizations for civic health, but they often don't explain why they are more relevant than ever. I propose to address this by:

  • Establishing a sustained and forward-looking marketing effort to promote the BPL
  • Refresh and expand BPL presence on the web and social media
  • Work with partners to institute a volunteer Library Ambassador campaign to promote BPL programs and priorities
  • Create docent/greeter program to make the Library a welcoming space
  • Release regular summary statistics on events, visitors, and library use

Leverage Town Departments to Serve Citizens Better

People of all ages and from all parts of town visit the library regularly.  Let's help Belmont serve its residents better by bringing services to them, where they are - at the library.

  • Host regular office hours at the library for Select Board, Chiefs of Police and Fire, Belmont Light, and other Town departments
  • Provide outreach to teens and parents of young children in collaboration with the Health Department and School District
  • Set up age-focused affinity groups in collaboration with Belmont Public Schools, Health Department, Council on Aging, and other town departments.
  • Offer free Notary Public services weekly
